Natural Treatment Of Asthma
What Is Asthma?
Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the airways to the lungs. If you have asthma your airways are always inflamed. They become even more swollen and the muscles around the airways can tighten when something triggers your symptoms. This makes it difficult for air to move in and out of the lungs, causing symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath and/or chest tightness. For some people, asthma is a minor nuisance. For others, it can be a major problem that interferes with daily activities and may lead to a life-threatening asthma attack.
According to Ancient Ayurveda, Asthma is known as a “Swas Rog” and is triggered by an accumulation of impurities that disrupt the delicate biochemistry of the tissues.
Causes Of Asthma
It’s hard to tell any single reason for asthma, but family genetics are believed to be a key factor. Researchers believe that the breathing condition is caused by a variety of factors. These factors include:
- People with a history of viral infections during childhood are more likely to develop the condition.
- Hygiene hypothesis proposes that babies aren’t exposed to enough bacteria in their early months and years. Therefore, their immune systems don’t become strong enough to fight off asthma and other conditions.
- Frequent contact with possible allergens and irritants may increase your risk for developing asthma.
ASTHMA TRIGGERS
Certain conditions and environments may also trigger symptoms of asthma. These triggers include:
- Exercise. Increased movement may make breathing more difficult.
- Illness. Respiratory illnesses such as the flu and pneumonia can trigger asthma attacks.
- Allergens. Animal dander, dust mites, and pollen are just a few examples of allergens that can trigger symptoms.
- Irritants in the air. People with asthma may be sensitive to irritants such as chemical fumes, strong odors, and smoke.
- Extreme weather conditions. Conditions such as very high humidity or low temperatures may trigger asthma.
- Emotions. Shouting, laughing, and crying may trigger an attack.
Different Types Of Asthma
There are many different types of asthma, brought on by many different triggers:
- Allergic Asthma: Allergic asthma is triggered by allergens such as pollen, pets and dust.
- Nonallergic Asthma: Illnesses, medications and environmental factors are common triggers for nonallergic asthma.
- Occupational Asthma: If you experience wheezing, coughing, chest tightness or shortness of breath at work, you may have occupational asthma.
- Adult-Onset Asthma: It can be frustrating to develop asthma for the first time as an adult. Fortunately, an allergist can help you manage your condition and live the life you want.
- Asthma-COPD Overlap: Asthma-COPD Overlap Syndrome (ACOS) is when you have both diseases. Each condition must be treated.
Sign And Symptoms Of Asthma
Asthma symptoms vary from person to person. You may have infrequent asthma attacks, have symptoms only at certain times — such as when exercising — or have symptoms all the time. Symptoms of asthma include:
- Chest tightness or pain
- Wheezing, a squealing or whistling sound made when breathing
- Coughing, especially at night, when laughing, or during exercise shortness of breath
- Fatigue
For some people, asthma signs and symptoms flare up in certain situations:
- Exercise-induced asthma, which may be worse when the air is cold and dry
- Occupational asthma, triggered by workplace irritants such as chemical fumes, gases or dust
- Allergy-induced asthma, triggered by airborne substances, such as pollen, mold spores, cockroach waste or particles of skin and dried saliva shed by pets (pet dander)
