Autoimmune Disorder

Herbal Treatment Of Autoimmune Disorder

An Autoimmune disorder is a condition in which your immune system mistakenly attacks healthy cells, tissues, and organs of your body. Our immune system defends the body against disease and infection. It identifies all foreign substances that invade our body and everything we come into contact. If the immune system malfunctions, it mistakenly attacks healthy cells, tissues, and organs. Autoimmune diseases occur when the body is working hard to defend against potentially hazardous substances our bodies, such as allergens, toxins, infections or food, but does not see the difference between the invaders and our own body cells.

Various Scientific research show us more than 80 autoimmune diseases, such as type 1 diabetes, multiple sclerosis, lupus, and rheumatoid arthritis, while others are rare and difficult to diagnose.

TYPES OF AUTOIMMUNE DISORDER:

There are more than 80 different autoimmune diseases. Here are some of the most common ones.

  1. Rheumatoid arthritis:It is the disorder in which the immune system attacks the joints. This attack causes redness, warmth, soreness, and stiffness in the joints.Rheumatoid Arthritis can start as early as your 30s or sooner.
  2. Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus: It is the disorder where the immune system attacks and destroys insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. By young adulthood, people with type 1 diabetes require insulin injections to survive.
  3. Psoriasis/psoriatic arthritis: In psoriasis, overactive immune system blood cells called T-cells collect in the skin. The immune system activity stimulates skin cells to reproduce rapidly, producing silvery, scaly plaques on the skin.
  4. Inflammatory bowel disease: The immune system attacks the lining of the intestines, causing episodes of diarrhea, rectal bleeding, urgent bowel movements, abdominal pain, fever, and weight loss. Ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease are the two major forms of IBD. Oral and injected immune-suppressing medicines can treat IBD.
  5. Graves’ Disease: The immune system attacks the thyroid gland in the neck, causing it to produce too much of its hormone into the blood (hyperthyroidism). Symptoms of Graves’ disease can include bulging eyes as well as weight loss, nervousness, irritability, rapid heart rate, weakness, and brittle hair. Destruction or removal of the thyroid gland, using medicines or surgery, is usually required to treat Graves’ disease.
  6. Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis: In Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, Antibodies produced by the immune system attack the thyroid gland, slowly destroying the cells that produce thyroid hormone. Symptoms include fatigue, constipation, weight gain, depression, dry skin, and sensitivity to cold.
  7. Myasthenia Gravis: Antibodies bind to nerves and make them unable to stimulate muscles properly. Weakness that gets worse with activity is the main symptom of myasthenia gravis. Mestinon (pyridostigmine) is the main medicine used to treat myasthenia gravis.

Causes Of Autoimmune Disorders

Normally, The blood cells in the body’s immune system help protect against harmful substances. Examples include bacteria, viruses, toxins, cancer cells, and blood and tissue from outside the body. These substances contain antigens. The immune system produces antibodies against these antigens that enable it to destroy these harmful substances.

When you have an autoimmune disorder, your immune system does not distinguish between healthy tissue and potentially harmful antigens. As a result, the body sets off a reaction that destroys normal tissues.

The exact cause of autoimmune disorders is unknown. One theory is that some microorganisms (such as bacteria or viruses) or drugs may trigger changes that confuse the immune system. This may happen more often in people who have genes that make them more prone to autoimmune disorders.

Symptoms Of The Autoimmune Disorder

Despite the varying types of autoimmune disease, many of them share similar symptoms. Common symptoms of autoimmune disease include:

  • Fatigue
  • Swelling and redness
  • Achy muscles
  • Skin problems
  • Trouble concentrating
  • Hair loss
    Skin rashes
  • Numbness and tingling in the hands and feet
