Blood Disorder are conditions that affect one or more parts of the blood and stop your blood from doing its regular job. They can be acute or chronic. Blood disorders cause a person’s blood to become thickened by increased quantities of immune-related proteins, red blood cells, or platelets.
There is a range of different types and symptoms depend on the type. However, some common symptoms include anemia, bleeding disorders such as hemophilia, blood clots, and blood cancers such as leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma,unexplained fatigue and weight loss.
There are many types of blood cell disorders that can greatly affect your overall health.
Red Blood Cell Disorders
Red blood cell disorders affect the body’s red blood cells. These are cells in your blood that carry oxygen from your lungs to the rest of your body. There are a variety of these disorders, which can affect both children and adults.
Anemia: It is a main type of red blood cell disorder. Anemia causes due to lack of the mineral iron in blood. Anemia if remain untreated can cause fatigue, pale skin, and shortness of breath with exertion.
Malaria: It is a another type of blood disorder, a mosquito’s bite can cause it. Mosquito’s bite transmits a parasite into a person’s blood which infects red blood cells causing fever, chills, and organ damage.
White Blood Cell Disorders
White blood cells (leukocytes) help defend the body against infection and foreign substances. Blood disorders that affect white blood cells include:
- Lymphoma: A type of blood cancer that occurs body’s in the lymph system. In lymphoma, Your white blood cells change and grow out of control. Hodgkin’s lymphoma and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma are the two major groups of lymphoma.
- Leukemia: A type of blood cancer in which white blood cells becomes malignant and multiply inside your body’s bone marrow. Leukemia may be either acute or chronic.
Chronic leukemia is progressive. - Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS): A genetic blood cancers which affect white blood cells in your bone marrow. Myelodysplastic syndrome may progress either slowly or quite fast. It sometimes leads to leukemia.
Symptoms of Blood Disorder
Symptoms depend on what part of the blood or organs is affected, as well as the severity and extent of the condition.
However, the majority of people with significant blood disorders tend to experience a general feeling of being unwell for no apparent reason.
Signs of Red Blood Cell Disorders Include:
- Unexplained exhaustion
- Shortness of breath
- Dizziness or light-headedness

- Muscle weakness
- Difficulty concentrating and remembering
- Paleness
Signs of White Blood Cell Disorders Include:
- Unexplained exhaustion
- Frequent infections
- Wounds that do not heal or are slow to heal
- Unexplained weight loss
