WHAT IS CHRONIC FATIGUE SYNDROME (CFS)?
Chronic fatigue syndrome is a disorder which causes you to feel extreme
fatigue or tiredness that you can’t complete normal, daily activities. This condition is also refer as systemic exertion intolerance disease (SEID) or myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME). Sometimes it’s abbreviated as ME/CFS. There is no common cause of Chronic fatigue syndrome.
There are no tests for Chronic fatigue syndrome, it’s hard to diagnosis. CFS can affect anyone, though it’s most common among women aged between 40s and 50s. There’s currently no cure, but treatment can relieve symptoms.
CAUSES OF CHRONIC FATIGUE SYNDROME
The cause of chronic fatigue syndrome is unknown. Researchers Suggest some causes or triggers for CFS/ME include:
- Viral infections, such as glandular fever

- Bacterial infections, such as pneumonia
- A hormone imbalance
- Mental health problems, such as stress and emotional trauma
- Your genes – CFS/ME seems to be more common in some families

- Feeling tiredness even after night’s sleep
- Loss of memory

- Tender and swollen lymph nodes in your neck and armpits
RISK FACTORS OF CFS
Factors that may increase your risk of chronic fatigue syndrome include:
- Age. Chronic fatigue syndrome mostly affects people in their 40s and 50s
- Sex. CFS Symptoms mostly found in womens more than men.
- Strain. Difficulty managing strain may contribute to the development of chronic fatigue syndrome.
DIAGNOSIS OF CHRONIC FATIGUE SYNDROME
CFS is a very challenging condition to diagnose. There is no specific test for CFS, and other illnesses can cause similar symptoms. your doctor has to rule out other diseases before making a diagnosis of CFS. He or she will do a thorough medical exam, including:
- Asking about your medical history and your family’s medical history
- Mononucleosis
- A thorough physical and mental status exam
- Lyme disease
- Blood, urine or other tests
- Lupus (SLE)
- Hypothyroidism
- Major depressive disorder
- Fibromyalgia
- Severe obesity
- Sleep disorders
