What is Delayed Ejaculation?
Delayed ejaculation is a medical condition in which a man find it difficult to reach an orgasm and ejaculate semen during penetrative sex. Even, Some men unable to release semen from the penis. This can occur by some physical or psychological problem like chronic health conditions, surgeries and medications.
When semen is discharged from the penis is known as ejaculation. Due to this problem a man needs more than 30 minutes to ejaculate. It can be a temporary or a lifelong problem.
Most men will experience delayed ejaculation at some point in their lives. Approx 1 to 4 percent of men are affected by Delayed ejaculation. Anxiety, low libido and sexual dissatisfaction are occur for delayed ejaculation.
Causes of Delayed Ejaculation
There are many possible causes of DE, including chronic health conditions, certain medications and surgeries. In many cases, it is due to a combination of physical and psychological concerns.
Psychological causes of delayed ejaculation include:
- Depression, anxiety or other mental health conditions
- Anxiety about performance
- Relationship problems that makes the person view sex as sinful
- Lack of attraction for a partner
- Poor body image
- Cultural or religious taboos
Medications and other substances for delayed ejaculation include:
- Long-term use of Alcohol
- Some antidepressants
- Certain diuretics
- Certain high blood pressure medications
- Some antipsychotic medications
- Some anti-seizure medications
Some Physical causes can also include:
- Blockage of the ducts that semen passes through
- Certain birth defects affecting the male reproductive system
- Nerve damage during surgery in the pelvis
- Certain infections, such as a urinary tract infection
- Hormone-related conditions, such as hypothyroidism or hypogonadism
- Prostate surgery, such as transurethral resection of the prostate or prostate removal
Signs & Symptoms of Delayed Ejaculation
Delayed ejaculation occurs when a man needs more than 30 minutes of sexual stimulation to reach orgasm and ejaculate. Ejaculation is when semen is discharged from the penis. Some men can only ejaculate with manual or oral stimulation. Some cannot ejaculate at all.
A lifelong problem with DE is very different from a problem that develops later in life. Some men have a generalized problem in which DE occurs in all sexual situations.
For other men, it only occurs with certain partners or in certain circumstances. This is known as “situational delayed ejaculation.”
In rare cases, DE is a sign of a worsening health problem such as heart disease or diabetes.
Risk Factors of Delayed Ejaculation
A number of things can increase your risk of having delayed ejaculation, including:
- Older age — as men age, it’s normal for ejaculation to take longer
- Medical conditions, such as diabetes or multiple sclerosis
- Psychological conditions, such as depression or anxiety
- Medications, particularly certain antidepressants, high blood pressure medications or diuretics
- Certain medical treatments, such as prostate surgery
- Relationship problems, such as poor communication with your partner
- Excessive alcohol use, especially if you’re a long-term heavy drinker
- Diagnosis of Delayed Ejaculation
Delayed ejaculation is diagnosed when a man is concerned about a marked delay or infrequency of achieving ejaculation during most sexual encounters over a period of 6 months or more, and when other problems have been ruled out.
To reach a diagnosis, a doctor will speak with the individual about symptoms and how often they occur. They will then rule out other potential medical problems, such as infections, hormonal imbalance, and so on. This may involve using blood and urine tests.
