Ayurvedic Treatment Of Gangrene

Immediate medical attention is required in the cases of gangrene because it can be life threatening. In the severe cases there is no other option left than amputation. What is gangrene? Have your heard anyone diagnosed with this disease. Gangrene mostly caused by the bacterium clostridium perfringens, which is developed during any injury or wound. In this condition the death of tissues occur in extremities due to the depletion of blood supply to them.
From the ayurvedic perspective, to manage the problem of gangrene there are various herbs like Haridra (Curcuma longa). Neem (Azadirachta indica), Amla (Emblica officinalis), Haritaki (Terminalia chebula), Bahera (Terminalia bellerica), Vacha (Acorus calamus), Neem (Azadirachta indica), Gotu kola (Centella asiatica) in ayurveda, which help to provide relief in the symptoms like swelling and pain in tissues. What Is Gangrene?

Gangrene is the condition which is characterised by the death of body tissues due to loss of blood supply. Gangrene is a bacterial infection caused by bacterium clostridium perfringens and may shoot the extremities like fingers, toes, limbs and also spread into internal organs and muscles.

Risk factors of gas gangrene are more in complications like diabetes, atherosclerosis, when destruction of blood vessels affects the blood flow. Certain medications like anticoagulant drugs warfarin has been known to cause gangrene.

Symptoms Of Gangrene

WHEN GANGRENE AFFECTS SKIN:-

  • Discoloration of skin like from pale to black, purple, blue, bronze and red.
  • A clear difference is visible between healthy and damaged skin.
  • Intense pain.
  • Foul smelling discharge from wound.

WHEN GANGRENE AFFECTS TISSUES BENEATH SKIN:-

Painful and swollen tissues.

IN GANGRENE, WHEN BACTERIAL INFECTION SPREADS THROUGHOUT THE BODY:-

  • Low blood pressure.
  • Increased heart beat.
  • Shortness of breath.
  • Fever or temperature may lower down than 96.8 F
  • Spinning head.

COMPLICATIONS ASSOCIATED WITH GAS GANGRENE:-

  1. Necrosis – Tissue death can occur due to inadequate blood supply.
  2. Amputation – Surgical removal of limbs is required in order to prevent the further spread of infection.
  3. Septicemia- Infection throughout blood stream which may lead to death.
  4. Delirium- A mental condition which is associated with confused thinking and lack of awareness to environment.

Discoloration of skin, foul smelling discharge, swelling and pain in infected tissues are the symptoms associated with gangrene.
