What Is Gangrene?

Risk factors of gas gangrene are more in complications like diabetes, atherosclerosis, when destruction of blood vessels affects the blood flow. Certain medications like anticoagulant drugs warfarin has been known to cause gangrene.

WHEN GANGRENE AFFECTS SKIN:-
- Discoloration of skin like from pale to black, purple, blue, bronze and red.
- A clear difference is visible between healthy and damaged skin.
- Intense pain.
- Foul smelling discharge from wound.
WHEN GANGRENE AFFECTS TISSUES BENEATH SKIN:-
Painful and swollen tissues.
IN GANGRENE, WHEN BACTERIAL INFECTION SPREADS THROUGHOUT THE BODY:-
- Low blood pressure.
- Increased heart beat.
- Shortness of breath.
- Fever or temperature may lower down than 96.8 F
- Spinning head.
COMPLICATIONS ASSOCIATED WITH GAS GANGRENE:-
- Necrosis – Tissue death can occur due to inadequate blood supply.
- Amputation – Surgical removal of limbs is required in order to prevent the further spread of infection.
- Septicemia- Infection throughout blood stream which may lead to death.
- Delirium- A mental condition which is associated with confused thinking and lack of awareness to environment.
