Our bladder is a muscular sac in the pelvis that stores urine. Bladder gets expand until it’s full and then brain receives the signal through pelvic nerves that it’s the time to urinate. But in the case of interstitial cystitis these signals get mixed which leads the urge to urinate more frequently with small volumes than normal people.

In cohesion with Ayurveda, interstitial cystitis is due to the imbalancing of vata and pitta dosha. Aggravated Vata and pitta dosha produce the toxic substances in kidney, urethra and pelvic area. Accumulation of toxic substances causes the frequent and painful urination. Vata dosha symbolizes dryness in body. Apana vata in found in lower pelvic region and helps in the good filtration by urine, stool and menstruation processes. Pitta dosha symbolizes heat in body. Burning sensation or painful sensation in the urine is an indicator of aggravated pitta dosha.
