Kidneys are bean shaped organ found in human body. Anatomical position of kidney is in back of abdomen. Size of each kidney is about 4-5 inch. Kidneys are very vital and functional organ found in our body. Essential function of kidneys is to purify blood. Blood passes through kidneys many times a day. It removes toxin and others wastes found in blood. Main function of kidneys is to maintain fluid and electrolyte balance. After the purification of body blood urine is resultant created by kidneys. After this urine collects in funnel shaped structure called pelvis. Then it is flushed to ureters and bladder. About Nephrotic Syndrome

Nephrotic syndrome is group of various symptoms related to kidneys in which kidney excrete proteins in excess. In this syndrome protein level found in blood is decreased but cholesterol and trigylceride levels are vice versa (increased). Inflammation in kidneys is other major difficulty found in this disorder. In this syndrome small and tiny blood vessels called glomeruli are damaged and not able to filter toxins and wastes.

Ayurvedic Outlook

Ayurvedic term used for this disorder is “VRIKKA SHOTHA”. No particular cause is found for this disease. It is caused by autoimmune reactions and genetic causes.

According to Ayurveda MITHYA AHAAR VIHAAR is one major reason for this disorder. If we are taking wrong and unhealthy food for long time they imbalance pachak pitta in our body. Disturbed pachak pitta don not digest our food and produce large amount of unwanted materials in our body. These toxins are called AMA.

These toxins causes damage our kidneys and are responsible for causing nephrotic syndrome.

Classification Of Nephrotic Syndrome

ON THE BASIS OF CAUSES NEPHROTIC SYNDROME IS DIVIDED INTO TWO TYPES:-

  1. Primary nephrotic syndrome
  2. Secondary nephrotic syndrome

ON THE BASIS OF HISTOLOGY NEPHROTIC SYNDROME IS DISTINGUISHED INTO FOUR FOLLOWING TYPES:-

  • Minimal change disease
  • Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis
  • Membranous glomerulonephritis
  • Membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis

Causes Of Nephrotic Syndrome

PRIMARY CAUSES

  • Hereditary nephropathy
  • Membranous nephropathy
  • Focal segmental glomeruloscleriosis
  • Minimal change disease
  • Diabetic nephropathy

SECONDARY CAUSES

  • Genetic disorders
  • Immunity related disorders
  • Amyloidosis
  • Clot in kidney vein
  • Infections
  • Certain drugs
  • Cancer

Symptoms Of Nephrotic Syndrome

SYMPTOMS MAY INCLUDE:-

  • Hyperprotinemia
  • Hyperlipidemia
  • Lipiduria
  • Hyponatermia
  • Puffy eyes
  • Swelling in feet and ankles
  • Pitting edema in legs
  • Excessive weight gain due to urine retention
  • Poor appetite
  • Seizures

Risk Factors Of Nephrotic Syndrome
